Kitchen Inspiration

2 minute read

The cabinetry design, colour palette and architecture of this kitchen were all heavily inspired by a favourite Cornish coastal retreat. The owners, a busy family of four, wanted their kitchen to remind them of happy days spent carefree on the beach enjoying the good life with friends.

Top tips for creating a calming feeling for your kitchen:

Natural materials and soothing colours All the kitchen cupboards in this project were handmade to order by our cabinet makers in our workshop in Surrey. The doors are a timeless Shaker style, hand painted in this summery Creekside Green, paired with brass pull handles.

Natural light Light is a key ingredient in this scheme and it absolutely floods into this space through slim framed full height architectural glazing (out of shot) as well as the two windows either side of the range. Daylight brings a beautiful softness to interior spaces. Spending so much time indoors as we do here in England, maximising light is a great way to help us feel bright and happy.

While we are here, there are some other neat little details you might like …

  • the cute little shelf inside the range hood
  • the range and the sink are opposite each other and this works well for pot filling and transferring pans quickly for washing up
  • the wide Island provides food preparation space as well as a favourite spot for family and friends to sit for a chat or help peel the vegetables and mix the cocktails
  • natural styling with branches from the garden is combined with earthy wooden bowls and chopping boards
  • the brass taps and handles lift the warming colour of the floor up
