Kitchen Design Idea for your Island and Table

Kitchen Design Idea for your Island and Table

2 minute read

Making the most of the space in period properties, while respecting the architectural heritage of the house is a challenge we always enjoy at Shere Kitchens.

The bare bones of the Old Forge Kitchen were already magnificent, with timeworn beams, views of the gardens, and with a door leading out to a courtyard for alfresco dining. As with many period properties the kitchen was smaller than the owners would have liked so a key part of the kitchen design brief was to make the most of the space, to ensure it was useable for a growing family. Central to the success of the design was thinking through food storage, preparation and eating spaces. The original kitchen had a separate dining table and Island, both unusually slim line, yet awkward in the space. With the owners, we designed this combined table and Island to give them more storage, more prep area and plenty of room for relaxed family suppers.

The table element feels traditional with a tactile handmade Oak top, it’s natural and comfortable to sit at. While the Island element provides deep drawers, and the veined quartz top delivers the much-needed prep space conveniently next to the Aga.

Our designers and furniture makers are experienced in assessing the space available and designing furniture for that specific area and use; composed as a whole, with fine proportions and details. Our bespoke furniture is made individually with precision to fit around treasured architectural features, wonky walls and ceilings.

Importantly this kitchen was designed in collaboration with the owners, considering what they needed space for, how they live and the history of their home. Click here to see more images of this kitchen.
