Bespoke Kitchens That Work Beautifully for Real Life

6 minute read

A kitchen shouldn’t just look good, it should feel right every time you walk into it and use it. Designing bespoke kitchens that work beautifully for real life is our favourite thing to do. Whether you’re prepping weekday meals, clearing up after a dinner party, or simply enjoying a morning coffee in peace, a well-designed kitchen should quietly support the rhythm of everyday life.

At Shere Kitchens, every kitchen we design is bespoke, not just in how it looks, but in how it works. Our clients come to us for cabinetry that’s made to measure, made to last, and made for them. In this post, we’re sharing some of the ways we design beautiful, functional kitchens that stand the test of time.

Designed Around How You Live: Bespoke Kitchens That Work Beautifully for Real Life

We believe the best kitchen designs start with thinking about real life. That means looking at how you cook, shop, eat, entertain, and relax, not just how you want the space to look.

Do you like to entertain? Then we’ll make sure you’ve got enough clear worktop space & a lovely drinks area. We’ll build in storage for platters, wine, glasses and integrated bins to keep things easy behind the scenes.

Love breakfast? We might tuck in a breakfast station with the coffee machine, milk frother & toaster plugged in and ready to go, behind bi-fold doors so it's easy to make the kitchen look tidy after the breakfast rush.

Love your pets? We can include a dog food bowl nook in your Island, a dog shower in the boot room or utility, and big custom drawers for dog food...

Our clients often tell us that one of the best things about their new kitchen is how easy it feels to use. That’s not by accident, it comes from thinking through the little details early on.

Custom Cabinetry That Fits the House, and You

Bespoke cabinetry isn’t just about choosing a special paint colour or handle. It means everything is designed and built to suit your home and you.

We often work in period homes where nothing is straight and walls are far from square, with beams and low ceilings & unusual layouts. Our cabinetry is custom-made to fit the architecture exactly, so you don’t lose space to filler panels or compromise on storage.

But it’s not just about making the cabinetry fit the house, it’s about making it work for the people in the house too. That might mean:

  • Deep drawers for pans with drawers within drawers so you can keep the lids together.

  • We've made a lot of cupboards around specific coffee and Thermomix machines

  • Pantry and larder storage laid out for how you shop

  • Cupboards tailored to favourite crockery, water bottles, trays or even roasting tins

  • Zones for food storage, prep, cooking, and entertaining family and friends

  • A boot & utility room with space for wellies, sports equipment, dog leads, coats, gloves and bags

Everything is considered, and nothing is off-limits.

Combining Beauty and Utility is Essential when Designing Bespoke Kitchens That Work Beautifully for Real Life

When a kitchen is thoughtfully designed, beauty and practicality can sit side by side.

Our clients are drawn to the timeless quality of natural materials, such as oak interiors, wood dovetail drawers, tulipwood doors, and painted finishes that age gracefully. These materials not only look good, but they stand up to daily use and can be touched up or refreshed years down the line.

We also think a lot about storage that works for you. That might mean a full-height larder with internal drawers so you can see everything at a glance. Or oil and spice drawers next to the range cooker so you’re not rummaging mid-recipe. Intergrated bins near the sink and dishwasher. Baking tray slots by the oven. Pan drawers. A dedicated baking cupboard. Phone charging drawers. Chopping board stores. Even letter racks. You name it, we’ve probably made it.

The point is, the beauty is in the detail. When it’s done right, you barely notice it, because everything feels like it’s where it should be.

Kitchens That Feel Personal: Bespoke Kitchens That Work Beautifully for Real Life.

Our kitchens are designed with you and for you. There’s a quiet confidence that comes with a kitchen that’s been designed specifically for your home. It’s not following trends. It’s not trying to look like something from a brochure. It feels calm, natural and lived-in, right from day one.

That’s the magic of truly bespoke. Every detail is chosen with care. From the door style, mouldings, cornice detail, plinth, cupboard internals, handles, worktops, the wood stains & paint colours, to the shelving brackets, we guide you through each choice, making sure it all hangs together.

We also design utility rooms, pantries, boot rooms and home offices to match or complement your kitchen, so the whole space flows together. Whether you’re renovating a listed property or building a new extension, we’ll work with the quirks and the character of the house to make the cabinetry feel like it’s always been there.

A Different Kind of Kitchen Company

We’re not a kitchen showroom with fixed ranges or catalogues. We’re furniture makers, working out of our workshop near Guildford. Everything we design is made to order.

That means we don’t start with a set of products, we start with you. We listen, sketch, test ideas, refine the plan, and build something that’s just right. Collaborative design and expert craftsmanship.

If you’re looking for a kitchen that’s individually designed and made to last, we’d love to help.

Planning Your Own Kitchen?

Our workshop and showroom in Shere is open by appointment, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You’ll be able to see our cabinetry up close, how the drawers slide, how the doors feel to open, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, the difference in finish that comes with custom-made work.

You can also see examples of stone worktops, paint colours, handles, and some appliances. We’ll talk you through what’s possible, and what might work best for your space.

To book a visit, please email or call, we’d be happy to meet and discuss your kitchen renovation or kitchen extension plans.
